About Billy Buchanan
Went to school and grew up in Providence, RI then attended Berklee College of Music. While I was there I studied primarily Jazz Composition, but also made sure to take advantage of the performance based courses as well as some of the courses in the music education department. After I graduated ('06) I went into the army bands program and did three years there as a bassist (was stationed in Germany for a while, then Iraq for a longer while, then back to Germany again for a shorter while). In Iraq I completed an online masters degree program in Education with a focus on teaching and learning and started working on a PhD in educational leadership. Now that I'm out of the army, I'm finishing the work on the PhD (and of course emphasizing music ed) and also enrolled in the Urban Education Policy Program at Brown University. I still gig and teach music as much as I can, and once I no longer am a student myself I'll be doing more of it and contributing here even more.Lessons & Articles By Billy Buchanan
